Be Prepared -- Be Safe -- Be Smart

Prepare a Home-Office Recovery Plan to Protect Your Home Office From Disaster

Margate, Florida, April 2005.  As many prepared their homes for tornados, hurricanes, flooding, and other disasters this year, a vital question remains. Did they remember to protect their home-based business as well? If not, they definitely should.  The difference between being prepared and waiting until the last minute could often result in not only the loss of important files and client files, but the businesses’ entire livelihood as well.  Can you imagine coming back to your home and your home office with all its equipment destroyed?  Could you quickly pick up the pieces, notify your clients, and get back to business as usual within a short time frame?  You could with the help of Patty Gale’s and Diana Ennen’s new book, The Home Office Recovery Plan: The Disaster Preparedness Guide for Your Home Business.

Patty Gale and Diana Ennen created this book to teach others how to ensure the survival of their home-office in the event of an emergency. After 9/11, Patty Gale had the task of preparing a similar guideline for a company she was working with at the time.  As Patty suggests, “Many companies don’t realize the need to  write the plan so that someone would be able to come right in and recreate your entire business utilizing the information you have provided.  You need to include key personnel, contact and client information, web information, and so forth.  Computer back-ups are vital, as well as where they are located onsite and off.  Legal documents concerning the business (i.e., corporate papers, client contracts, etc.) and personal documents (i.e., Wills and Trusts, bank information, etc.) are just as important.  The security this brings enables any business, of any size, to better survive when something goes wrong.”

Co-author Diana Ennen lives in Margate Florida and has first hand knowledge of the value of good business contingency planning for your business.  Having witnessed four hurricanes last year, she realized how valuable it was to have all the insurance information and equipment serial numbers and photos already taken. She states, “Having my plan prepared enabled me to focus on my family and home, knowing my home-based business was safe.”

If your home office isn’t prepared, we recommend that you go to our website at http://www.HomeOfficeRecoveryPlan.com and get our free sample chapters and checklist.  Since your business is your home, protect both at one time.
